1950's FASHION AND HAIR...PLEASE HELP! 10 POINTS TO THE BEST ANSWER?

Hi,

I have a drama assesment tomorrow, and our scene is set in around 1945/1946...we have just decided to wear costumes, and I do not know what to wear! I have no time to buy anything now

I am playing a young wife in her mid-twenties with one daughter

Please can anyone suggest an outfit and hairstyles made up from clothing I am likely to already own?

Oh and btw I can't borrow off older family members due to size and time

Please help!

Remember Marylin Monroe? She was around in the 50s so try to style yourself on her and you cnt go far wrong. You dont really want a pony tail if you are a wife - they were for the teenagers.

You have to wear dresses, like flower dresses or polka dresses in like a yellow or orange color, since that楹搒 a very 40楹搒 and 50楹搒 style of dress and colors. Wear your hair in a ponytail and wear a pearl necklace. For shows wear high heels but not the strappy kind that shows your feet, instead wear some type of stilleto in a white color or the same color as your dress which should also be a light color like orange or yellow.

Hmm..that's quite tough. If I ever had to do this, borrow something off your mum. I know her size is different, but if it's all too big, what I do is I turn it inside out, get a load of safetly-pins and pin it on the inside in the places you need to. Turn it the right way round and it should be smaller.

Unfortunately you've left it too late so I can't suggest anything else.

As for the hair, get the straighteners or curling tongs out and curl your hair. But then you'll have to go through the whole day with it, but it'll look great. For that extra "40's housewife" look. Get two hairpins..you know the long black ones, and after you've curled your hair, stick one pin just under your ear on the side of your head. I wish I could show you a picture but I can't find one.

Good luck for tomorrow.

Some of these answers are so off base as to be dillusional. On the internet look up retro fashions or just go here:

These are all great examples of what you should be looking for. You can probably hit a thrift store and piece together the look you need.

Try this link for some ideas. The ladies wore stockings with seams running down the back however because of the rationing these were hard to get hold of so I believe they used to dye their legs and paint a line down the back to look like a seam the same could be done with some fake tanhttp://www.angelfire.com/retro2/lisanost...

Do you have a schoo lskirt? pref with a pleat in the front- grey is fine for wartime colours, do you or your mum have a cardi (round neck) you don't like? if so shrink it a bit - good hot tumble dry on wool, if you're supposed to be young housewife end of war era, you'd have been making do and wearing well worn clothes and hand me downs. for a blouse you could unpick a collar off one you have just leaving the stand up part and either button it fully and put a small brooch at the neck or press it down and make it a 'peter pan' style collar, pressthe button and buttonhole side to make the front a modest 'v' shape, Use a khol pencil to draw seams up the back of your legs, use some spray tan if you have any - I'm sure you'll more likely have that than gravy browning! which is what they used to use, hair use your straighteners but curl it, and just pull back at the sides, above your ears, using grips or clips, make your fringe - if you have one quite curled under, rather than atraight. shoes, you'll just have to go with whatever you have that is most suitable. Skirt needs to be just below the knee, as they were due to shortage of material they were quite plain but usually had a pleat for ease of movement and practicality.
